It was 80 minutes of fast-paced and well executed soccer Wednesday night in Gilbert. Your #12 Lady Firebirds gave the #5 defending State Champion Gilbert Christian Knights all they could handle; an awkward rebound off a free kick just outside the penalty was the only goal (29′) surrendered in the tightly contested opening round match-up of the 2021 3A Girls Soccer State Tournament.
The Firebirds offensive attack was solid all evening with 8 shots on goal, but unfortunately none found the back of the net. Just as impressive was the defensive back four, regularly denying the Lady Knights a counter attack. Anchoring the defense was Junior Goalkeeper Becca Hinton who had nine saves.
